What is your favorite "early" cigar? Friday, Jul 22 2005

What I mean by this is what cigar do you like to smoke when you decided to partake early in the day… whether that’s a cigar with your morning coffee, after breakfast, or a late morning smoke.
Which cigar best suits your palate early in the day?
To be honest I haven’t ever lit up before noon. I have thought about it. A good mild cigar with a good cup of coffee sounds like a great way to kick off a cool spring or autumn morning. I just haven’t found a cigar that I feel would work for me that early in the morning. I’m curious to hear what some of you morning smokers like to puff on to start the day. Excalibur #3 Limited Edition 6.1×48 Friday, Jul 15 2005

Country: Honduras
Wrapper: Connecticut Shade
Filler: Honduran, Nicaraguan, Dominican (Piloto Cubano)
Size: 6.1″x48 ring

I love these cigars. They are the perfect balance of flavor, medium bodied and smooth smoking. The taste has a hint of cedar with a smoky finish. It has a perfect draw and burns slow and even all the way to the nub. The cigar is consistent from when you light it all the way down to when your fingers are starting to get hot holding it. The smoke is thick, creamy and beautiful. The ash is firm but it is a kind of unattractive grey. Some cigars have that nice almost white ash but this one doesn’t. It’s the only bad thing I can say about it, and it is such a minor thing it is hardly even worth mentioning (but for some reason I did anyway). Heck, it’s not even really a bad thing, it’s just ash after all.

It’s a great cigar. A bit pricey but worth every penny.

The Completed Table (well almost) Saturday, Jul 9 2005

Here is a shot of my poker table completely assembled. All that is left to do is stain and finish that race track. I couldn’t resist the urge to assemble it to see how it looked all put together.

Gurkha Master Select 6.0×52 Saturday, Jul 9 2005

Country: Dominican Republic
Wrapper: Habana 2000
Filler: Domician Long Filler
Size: Toro Grande 6″x52 ring

This was a great cigar. I smoked it last night. It is a medium to full flavored cigar but mild in strength. It tasted great with a cedar like flavor to it. It burns very smoothly and is a nice easy draw. My only complaint is that I couldn’t smoke it to the nub. It started to get too harsh for my tastes once I got down to the last 2 inches or so. The ash was a nice grayish white and it held together well. I had almost 2 inches of ash before I tapped it, but I probably could have waited even longer to do so. I just didn’t want it falling off on my friends patio. Definitely a good smoke. I’ll probably order a five pack of these sometime in the future, but not something I’d want a whole box of.

Major Construction is complete… Sunday, Jul 3 2005

After a marathon day of cutting, sanding, and drilling, the poker table is starting to really come together. Next step is to get the right size hole saw so I can set the cup holders that are stacked along the table’s race track. Then it will be time to upholster it. I hope to have time on Monday to pad the outer rail.
