Well, it’s finished. I have to say I am pretty happy with the results. It took forever to get the poly finish done. Those poker chips are embedded into the wood and sealed under the poly finish. One chip at each seat position. Here are the links to previous posts that kind of show some of the work in progress.

Matthew, love your poker table. All your hard work has paid off. Know you are anxious to use it. Jane
Hey Matt! I know Chris would love to come over and play some Hold ‘Em with you on that pretty table…

Matt- love your table! My son (senior in HS) is making a poker table for his senior project, and his table appears to be very similar to yours (except his is round- 5/6 person table). I love the embedded poker chip you placed in your racetrack.
If you have a minute, I would really appreciate you dropping me an email describing how you did this- it really adds a touch of class!
Thanks- Dee dee_h@bellsouth.net
yea me too the chip is an awesome addition…could you please drop me a line and explain how u did this…thanks a lot.

I love your site and the details on building the poker table. How did you inlay the poker chips in the racetrack?
Thanks,
David Tait
I get a lot of questions about how I inlaid the chips in the racetrack so I figured I should post it here. I didn’t have the proper equipment so I didn’t do it as precisely as I would have liked but it still came out quite nice. To create the insets I used a Forstner bit and a drill press. My drill press was a cheap little rig fro H-Depot that was powered by attaching my hand drill to the top of it. Basically I got a forstner bit that was just a smidge bigger in diameter than the chips I was insetting. I measured the thickness of the chip and marked the appropriate depth on the bit with tape so I would know how deep to go. I managed to create a very tight fit and glue wasn’t really necessary, but I put a small drop of gorilla glue under each chip. Of course I measured out the spacing so that they were centered between the cup holders. That’s all there was to it.
I’ve got another question for you, what color stain did you use?
Thanks,
David Tait
PS I am about to start my table this weekend, wish me luck:-)
I used Minwax Mahogany Stain and Minwax Polyurethane to seal it.
